CMSF Homeroom Challenge #5: Basketball Champions!

The Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School just completed their fifth PBIS Event of the year. Homeroom Challenge #5: The Basketball Competition took place on January 31. Those students who followed the Rule of Five from January 6 through January 31 were allowed to attend the event. The basketball competition had four different events for the students to participate in.

Event #1 was a participation event. The students were encouraged to wear their class colors to school on Friday (Freshmen are Green & White, Sophomore are Orange & Black, Juniors are Blue & Red, and Seniors are Purple & Gold). The team with the highest percentage of students wearing their class colors earned 10 points (2nd Place was 6 points, 3rd was 5, and 4th was 4). The Freshmen Class, with an 84% participation rate, won the first event.

Event #2 was a speed dribble competition. A boy and a girl from each class tried to be the fastest to dribble up and down the floor while weaving around five chairs. Freshmen Robbie Hadley won the event for the boys and Junior Faith Vinson won first place for the girls.

Event #3 was a speed passing competition. Five boys and Five girls from each class lined up down the floor and tried to be the first team to pass the ball the length of the floor and back. The Seniors won the boys' event and the Freshmen won the girls' race. Going into the final event, the Sophomores were in 4th place with 26 points, the Juniors were in 3rd place with 28, the Senior Class was in 2nd place with 31 points, and the Freshmen were in 1st place with 40 total team points.

The fourth and final event was a Hot Shot Competition. Two boys and two girls from each class had sixty seconds to make as many baskets as possible. The farther away the shot, the more points a made basket was worth. After everyone had taken their shots, Junior Jade Hill won the event for the girls with 20 points and Junior Jeremy Choat won the event for the boys with 46 points. The other hot shot contestants were: (Freshmen) Alley Jones (10 points), Brianna Funaro (12), Caleb Roski (38), and Aden Gilliam (34).
