Child Abuse Awareness Month

April is Child Abuse Awareness Month. Many Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School students are raising awareness by coloring blue ribbons to hang around the school. On Wednesday, April 21, the students, faculty, staff, and administration showed their support by wearing blue.

There are many statistics that show how abuse can affect children and adults. We never want anyone to be a statistic. If you need help or know someone who needs help, tell an adult. Mrs. Ally and Mrs. Lane are the school counselors in our school district. If you see something, say something.

The following statistics come from dosomething.org:

1) Children who experienced any form of violence in childhood have a 13% greater likelihood of not graduating from high school.

2) It's estimated that at least 1 in 7 children in the United States has experienced child abuse and/or neglect in the past year.

3) Boys and girls experience similar rates of childhood abuse (48.6% and 51.0% respectively).
