Scholar Bowl

The Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School Scholar Bowl team began their season on November 2.

In their first match of the season, the CMSF Scholar Bowl team pulled off a fourth quarter comeback, winning 120-110 at Hardin County. Trailing 90-70 going into the fourth quarter, the Wildcats trimmed the Cougars’ lead to 100-90 with two rounds to go. In the 23rd round of 24, freshman Lilian Crawford tied the match on a tossup question, correctly answering “firewall” when asked which software blocks access. Crawford and junior Devyn Valdez each scored a bonus question to push the Wildcats’ lead to 120-100.

In the final round, Hardin County cut the Wildcats’ lead to 10 points on a math toss-up question. But the Cougars failed to correctly answer any of the three bonus questions, and the Wildcats left victorious.

Senior Kaylee Horn led the Wildcats with 40 points. Valdez and Crawford - who entered the match in the fourth quarter - scored 30 points. Senior Morgan Murphy and junior Brianna Cullers each scored 10 points.

The Carrier Mills junior varsity team dropped their first match of the season, falling 160-90 at Hardin County. Trailing 90-0 at halftime, the JV Wildcats outpaced the JV Cougars 90-70 in the second half. Crawford and freshman Brayden Harmon each led the JV team with 30 points apiece. Sophomore Jade Nalley scored 20, and freshman Elijah Cummins scored 10.

The Wildcats travel to Crab Orchard next Wednesday, Nov. 8, for their second match of the season.
