Scholar Bowl

The Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School Scholar bowl teams earned a sweep at first-place Galatia on January 12. The Varsity Wildcats won 200-80 over the Varsity Bearcats, and the Junior Varsity Wildcats won in overtime 130-120 on a tiebreaker question from freshman Lilian Crawford.

The JV Cats extended their winning streak to six and are now 8-2 on the season. The Varsity Cats improved to 7-3. 

Sophomore Jade Nalley led the Varsity Cats with 80 points. Junior Devyn Valdez scored a career-high 60, junior Brianna Cullers scored 30, and senior captain Kaylee Horn scored 30.

Crawford led the JV Cats with 80 points, correctly answering Birmingham in overtime when asked which Alabama city was directed to be integrated in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy. Freshman captain Brayden Harmon scored 20, freshman Brayden Kirk scored 20, and sophomore Cadence Boaz scored 10.

The Wildcats are off until next Thursday, January 19, when they look to capture the Greater Egyptian Conference tournament title.
